Evolution in Staurozoa - molecular, morphological, cnidome and developmental subsidies

Abstract

Análises filogenéticas recentes baseadas em dados de ciclo de vida, morfologia e moléculas resultaram na proposta de uma nova classe para Cnidaria, Staurozoa. Devido ao seu posicionamento na topologia do filo, na base de Medusozoa, e a particularidades do seu ciclo de vida, durante o qual ocorre metamorfose do pólipo para medusa sem fissão transversal ou brotamento lateral, estudos com estauromedusas contribuem para uma melhor compreensão sobre a evolução do ciclo de vida em Cnidaria. Entretanto, considerações evolutivas que lidem com o relacionamento entre os componentes da classe são raras e restritas a poucas espécies. Visando abordar diferentes aspectos relacionados à evolução de Staurozoa, este projeto tem como objetivo inferir (1) a evolução do plano corporal de Staurozoa; (2) o significado taxonômico/evolutivo do cnidoma para classe; (3) a natureza polipóide e/ou medusóide de uma estauromedusa. Os resultados serão inseridos em um contexto evolutivo proveniente de uma ampla análise filogenética molecular para a classe. Dessa forma, propomos um estudo integrado acerca da evolução em Staurozoa, subsidiando inferências para a evolução do ciclo de vida em Cnidaria.
