Abstract

Children with dyslexia, besides writing and reading difficulties, also show poor postural control performance. Recent studies have suggested that children with dyslexia might present changes in the dynamical process of sensory reweighting, specifically in how sensory cues, such as visual, are obtained from the available ones in order to perform a motor task. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the use of visual cues during postural control task in dyslexic children. Twenty children with dyslexia, diagnosed and indicated by the Brazilian Association of Dyslexia, and 20 children with no dyslexia, 10-year-olds, will participated of two experiments. In the first experiment, it will be examined how dyslexic children and non-dyslexic children use eye movements during upright stance, fixating a target and performing saccadic eye movements. In the second experiment, eye movements will be examined in a sensory reweighting due to change in the visual stimulus. In this case, dyslexic and non-dyslexic children will maintain upright stance inside of a moving room that will oscillate back and forward continuously, during 5 minutes. In the third minute, amplitude and velocity of the room will be increased, returning in the following two minutes to the same parameters employed in the first two minutes. In both experiments, eye movement, postural control performance, and visual stimulus and body sway relationship will be recorded and examined. (AU)
