International circulation and background of Brazilian ruling classes

Abstract

This study is situated among those dealing with the understanding of the contemporary struggles concerning the meaning of "globalization", or "universalistic project", which propose, based on negotiations given as scientific, to establish forms of organization, action principles and modes of government which are intended to be extended to the whole planet. The target is the investigation of individuals and networks which operate in the elaboration of this project in intergovernmental organs, international associations, NGOs, universities and professional societies. It is believed that knowledge of the agents involved in the acceleration of this project will throw more light on the comprehension of this powerful hegemonic instrument, which tends to become the central site for the for the continuity of the national elites in the countries peripheral to those production centers of the universalistic institutional models. The proposal extends a series of research projects conducted by a team of researchers who, supported by the CAPES/COFECUB agreements, investigated the intellectual and professional itineraries of Brazilian professors and scholars who chose to go abroad to seek their doctoral education.
