Senior Researcher at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) since 2009, where he has served, since 2020, as Head of the Division of Strategic Projects 3 (DIPE3). He was Coordinator of the Earth System Science Center (CCST/INPE) from 2013 to 2019. He coordinates and conducts interdisciplinary research in the fields of ecology, biogeochemistry, and Earth system science, with emphasis on the integration of global environmental change, ecosystem services, and public policy. He is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Earth System Science (PG-CST/INPE) and a collaborating professor in the Graduate Program of the Center for Environmental Studies and Research (NEPAM/UNICAMP). Participate in several initiatives and institutions, including: Deputy Coordinator of the Brazilian Research Network on Global Climate Change (Rede CLIMA); Coordinator of the AdaptaBrasil MCTI Platform; Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of CIM; Representative of FAPESP in the Belmont Forum funding agency consortium; Member of the Binational Council of the French-Brazilian Center for Amazonian Biodiversity (CFBBA); Member of the Council of the American Geophysical Union; and Member of the Governing Council of Future Earth.Appointed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability) for the AR5 and AR6 assessment cycles, and to the IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. He was also appointed to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) for the Regional and Subregional Assessment Scoping reports, as well as for the Nexus and Global Environmental Outlook 5 synthesis reports coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Between 2006 and 2020, he represented Brazil on the Executive Council of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), served as Regional Director of the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI), and was a member of the American Geophysical Unions Committee on International Participation (AGU-CIP). He was the technical coordinator of the Cerrado Vegetation Monitoring Project under the Forest Investment Program (FIP/World Bank). He also served as a member of the Scientific-Technical Council of the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BPBES) and of the Advisory Committee of the Paraíba Valley Ecological Corridor Association.
