Forestry engineer (1979) and MsC in forest science (1986) by Universidade de São Paulo (1979), and PhD at Botany from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1994). Pos-doc in Phytogeography of Cerrado at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Scotland. At present is a researcher and member of the Scientific Council of the Instituto de Pesquisas Ambientais of São Paulo state, and associate Professor in postgraduate courses of Forest Science (UNESP-Botucatu) and Ecology (UNICAMP). Member of the Editorial Board of the international journals Restoration Ecology, and Applied Vegetation Science. Founding member of the Brazilian Society for Ecological Restoration - SOBRE. My researches have been focused on Ecology, Conservation and Restoration of Cerrado and Atlantic Forest.on Ecosystem Ecology and Ecology applied to conservation and ecological restoration. Included among the world's most cited scientists since 2021 in the list compiled by Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers.
