Abstract The investigation of thermal effects on processes taking place at electrodes can provide unique information regarding interphase. Among several aspects, one can be evaluated: effects on the reaction rates, double charge capacitances, activation energies of adsorption/desorption processes and of charge transfer processes. Notably useful, is the study of the platinum|solution interphase, due the remarkable reactivity of platinum, well-known as the best electro catalyst for direct fuel cells application. Although fundamental studies in calorimetry are extensively available in the specific literature, the local temperature influence in such processes is not an often target. It is expected that, taking into account the recent viability of high sensitivity thermal methods, we could not just monitor the thermal transients during electrochemical reactions, but also control this variable in an independent manner, enabling a better elucidation of several interfacial phenomena. Moreover, this project proposes the coupling of conventional electrochemical methods with the investigation of complex behavior emergency in reactions of practical importance, using in situ calorimetry. Considering the great attention given to kinetic instabilities emergency in electrochemical systems, and, the headway already made by the Electrochemistry Group (IQSC/USP) toward this regard, we feel extremely motivated in deepen our studies from this perspective, aiming at broaden the knowledge generated so far. | |
