Abstract
This project includes the main research areas currently being developed by our group on ecology of interspecific interactions, behavioral ecology, and genetics of populations, all of which having ants as focal organisms. These research topics were established and amplified through active collaborations with researchers from UNICAMP, as well as from other Brazilian institutions. The diversity of research topics developed by our group has grown in the past years, as seen by our recent publications with various groups of collaborators. The studies being proposed in the project are divided into four subprojects that belong to three wide areas of investigation by our group. The subprojects include Master and Doctoral research theses currently being developed by students of our group in the Ecology Graduate Program of UNICAMP. Two subprojects include active collaborations with research groups from the Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (Rio Claro-SP) and from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas. The subprojects are the following:Part I - Ecology of ant-plant interactionsSubproject A - Interactions involving ants, flowers and flower visitors in cerrado vegetation: A case study with Byrsonima intermedia A. Juss. (Malpighiaceae)Subproject B - Secondary seed dispersal by ants in Siparuna guianensis (Siparunaceae) in cerrado vegetationPart II - Ecology, behavior, and microbiology of antsSubprojeto C - Behavioral ecology and microbiology of attine ants (Formicidae: Myrmicinae)Part III - Landscape genetics in cerrado ant populations Subproject D - Effects of landscape on genetic diversity of cerrado ants: A comparative study between Camponotus rufipes and C. renggeri.
