Abstract

The objective of this project is to determine what are really relevant the intrinsic characteristics for understanding the role of each species/functional group in the determination of the floristic composition, of the structure and of the functioning of the different physiognomies of the Dense Rain Forest of the north-east region of the State of São Paulo: Núcleos Picinguaba and Santa Virgínia of the State Park of the Serra do Mar. Simultaneously, with the data on the functioning of this ecosystem, we will be able to determine the role, as a CO2 source of emission or sink, of the Dense Rain Forest of Domínio Atlântico on the interannual climatic variability and in the scenarios of global climate change. This date will permit the comparison with the results which are being obtained by the BS Project (Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazônia) in the Dense Rain Forest of the Amazon Basin.
