Engenheiro Agrônomo pela Universidade de São Paulo (1971), mestre em Energia Nuclear na Agricultura pela Universidade de São Paulo (1974) e doutor em Química Analítica pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1981). Atualmente é professor titular do Centro de Energia Nuclear na Agricultura da Universidade de São Paulo e membro titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências. Suas atividades de pesquisa contemplam principalmente o projeto e desenvolvimento de sistemas de análises químicas em fluxo, com aplicações nas áreas agronômica, ambiental, farmacêutica e industrial. Ênfase tem sido dada à valorização dos aspectos éticos, morais e espirituais, de forma a desenvolver junto aos seus estudantes e colaboradores os sentimentos de espírito de equipe, liberdade intelectual, criatividade e, sobretudo, amizade.
