Professor Eckert graduated (Diplomchemiker, 1978) and obtained his PhD (Dr. rer. nat., 1982) in Physical Chemistry at the Westfälische Wilhelms Universität Münster (WWU). He was a professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara 1987-1996), before he accepted a Chair (C-4) in Physical Chemistry at the WWU Münster. He is the founder and chairman of the NRW Graduate School of Chemistry, established at the WWU in 2001. He has published more than 500 papers in the area of solid state NMR technique development and applications in Materials Sciences and has led about 70 Graduate students to their doctoral degrees in Physical Chemistry. He currently advises a group of 6 graduate students and postdocs conducting research in this area. He is one of the founding editors of the Elsevier-Journal Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and served as Editor-in-Chief from 2010 to 2017. He was an Associate Editor for the ACS journal Chemistry of Materials from 1998-2011. SInce 2006 he is member of the Northrhine Westphalian Academy of Sciences, He serves on the selection committees of Georg-Forster postdoctoral programme and the Georg-Forster prize of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation and of the joint Humboldt/CAPES postdoctoral programme. In 2011 he became a faculty member of the Instituto de Física de São Carlos, IFSC/USP. In 2016 he was awarded the George Morey Prize from the American Ceramic Society. (Fonte: Currículo Lattes)
