Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Química (IQ) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
I obtained my PhD in Life Science at Sao Paulo University, Brazil, with a one-year exchange position in the group of Prof. Orian Shirihai, at Boston University, where I remained for 2 years of post-doctoral training. Metabolism has being my focus since my PhD, where I investigated the effects of nutrients on cellular metabolism, cell signaling and ageing. My passion for metabolism and bioenergetics lead me to further explore the subject during my post-doctoral studies. In 2014, I began a Research Associate position at the National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev, Israel. I was responsible for developing high-content screening for compounds which enhance mitochondrial turnover in beta-cells, successfully done in collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science. Then in 2016, I spent four months at Padova University, Italy, as a visiting scientist in the group of Prof. Luca Scorrano, validating some of my results in D. melanogaster model of Parkinsons Disease, where, again, collaboration with other scientists made the few months I spent there very productive.
