Abstract

The replacement of thermoset matrices of high cost for lower-cost thermoplastic matrices has aimed to benefit large-scale production and provide openness to different markets, such as automotive, construction and the sports. An important aspect in the use of semi-crystalline thermoplastic matrix is the possibility of altering the morphology of the matrix from the processing conditions, which induce the crystallization kinetics of different composite. This project has as main objective to obtain a composite PP/PE reinforced with glass fibers, using the hot compression molding, with different degrees of crystallinity and assess the influence of crystallinity on their thermal and mechanical properties. In this study, first we analyze the crystallinity of these matrices (PP and PP/PE) from the use of D. Subsequently, thermoplastic laminates are processed by using different cooling rates during the pressing. After obtaining the laminates with different crystallinities, these will be assessed and compared their results when acid digestion, ultrasonic inspection and optical microscopy, and its crystal structure is evaluated from the DSC technique. Finally, the characterization is performed by mechanical shear tests, dynamic mechanical analysis and analysis of vibration elastic modulus.
