    Abstract
The cleft lip and palate have complex etiology and morbidity and represent the most common birth defects. The most common dental anomalies in individuals with cleft lip and palate are tooth agenesis and supernumerary teeth. However, recent international studies have highlighted other anomalies such as root dilacerations, tooth transpositions and taurodontism that are of significant clinical importance in the rehabilitation process. The prevalence of these anomalies is increased in individuals with cleft lip and palate when compared to the general population. Thus it is proposed in this study to investigate these anomalies and determine their prevalence in a group of patients with non-syndromic cleft lip and palate. This study will be a retrospective study that will analyze the panoramic x-rays of 1000 individuals aged 18 years or older. These x-rays will be divided into four equal groups which will include the following: unilateral cleft lip and palate, non-syndromic; unilateral cleft lip only, non-syndromic; cleft palate only, non-syndromic; and a control group without cleft. One examiner will assess each dental anomaly following pre-determined criteria, and will be previously trained using a pilot study. (AU)
