Abstract
Intercropped growth of coffee (Coffea arabica L.) with woody plants has proven beneficial to the crop, as a reduction in the incidence of winds and maximum air temperature. This production system allows the farmer an additional income from the second crop, which makes it favorable to the producer, since the production biennial oscillation and the price of coffee at certain times, lead to financial problems the grower. However, studies with intercropping of coffee macadamia nut (Macadamia integrifolia Maiden & Betche) are almost nonexistent in the São Paulo state. So two experiments was installed, in order to assess whether the intercropping system offers economic advantages over the cropping system and which of the varieties of macadamia have more desirable characteristics to the intercropping. The experiments were planted in February 2006 in São Pedro farm in Dois Córregos - SP (22º 21' S and 48º 22' W). The soil is a Typic Hapludox. Experiment I consists of three systems (1-Macadamia sole, 2-Coffee sole and 3-Coffee intercropped with macadamia nut), with and without drip irrigation. Experiment II, conducted entirely in irrigated condition, consists of six treatments, ie, coffee intercropped with six varieties of macadamia (IAC 90-20, IAC 4-12B, IAC 4-20, HAES 660, HAES 816 and HAES 344). Both experiments were completely randomized, with ten replications. Are being evaluated in macadamia plants: number of nuts, nut productivity, almond productivity, plant height, crown diameter and stem diameter, and in coffee plants: plant height, trunk diameter and productivity. The data will be analyzed with the help of the SAS (2003) and the averages compared by Tukey test at 5% probability. In both experiments, all values of input and output features will be recorded until the fifth season (2012) and considering the production costs and gross revenues obtained by the end of the fifth season in each treatment will be far a comparison between the net proceeds obtained, it was found then the treatment that provides better economic returns.
